Dear Governor Culver,
We cannot afford to sacrifice Iowa’s natural resources to the greed of corporate agriculture. That is why we are calling on you to act today to support and work for the passage of local control in Iowa.
One of the biggest issues in Iowa today is local control over the siting and expansion of factory farms. You ran for
office on this issue, and we want you to follow through on your campaign promise. As the top political leader at the statehouse, you are in an excellent position to rally support for local control and move it forward towards passage.
Local control is the truest form of democracy. It means that local people, who know their area best, will decide on what type of development happens in their county, and it means that counties will have the power to stop factory farms from building. States like Nebraska, Minnesota and Missouri have local control. Iowans deserve it, too.
We’re calling on you to stand strong in support of local control over the siting of factory farms.
