On Thursday, March 22, members of CCI's
Latinos en Accion met with Lt. Governor Patty Judge and Bob Mulqueen,
Governor Culver's chief policy analyst. They shared their experiences
and how the raid has affected Marshalltown. This was part of an
ongoing effort to effect fair immigration reform, which Judge pledged
to help push for.
Here's more from an article in the Times
Republican:
Lt. Gov. Patty Judge met with a number of
local residents Thursday to hear first-hand how the Immigration
and Customs Enforcement raid at the Swift & Company plant has
affected Marshalltown.
During the visit, she pledged to help push
for meaningful immigration reform.
“This has to be federally-driven,”
she told the group of approximately 20 residents. “We have
to work on this at the national level, which I think we are willing
to do.”
The group encouraged Judge to look at the
McCain-Kennedy bill on immigration, which would provide a path to
legal status and eventually citizenship to immigrants who currently
are illegal, but have not violated any criminal statutes.
