In 2002, CCI helped win unanimous
approval for a real estate contract sales ordinance.
The City of Des Moines ordinance requires
a contract seller to have a residential property inspected by an
independent home inspector before its sale. The results of this
inspection are provided to the buyer to help them make a more informed
decision when purchasing a home.
- An independent home inspector that
meets the city’s certification requirements must perform
the inspection. Click
here for a list of approved inspectors.
- The inspector is not allowed to have
any financial interest in the property or with the contract seller.
He or she is to provide you with unbiased information about the
houses’ condition.
- This completed inspection form should
be provided to the buyer by the contract seller 14 days prior
to completing the sale of this house. The 14 days will give the
buyer time to talk to family, friends, and contractors about the
house before you agree to buy it. You should not occupy the house
prior to the time the sale is completed.
To see if an inspection has been filed,
call the City of Des Moines Neighborhood Inspection Division at

form, contact Danny Wagener at 515-255-0800 or danny@iowacci.org. |
