About
our farm:
Anna and I began farming in 1982 on our farm about 6 miles south
of Carroll. We have two grown children, Vern and Vickie. I was raised
on a farm until I was 14 years old and still farm because it’s
in my blood.
How we
raise our animals:
We raise 700 chickens, 40-50 turkeys and a dozen hogs annually.
Our animals are not given hormones or antibiotics. We raise our
own chemical-free grain and the animals are allowed to eat at their
will. Customers can be confident that their food was raised healthfully,
processed locally and that we used sustainable agricultural methods
to help protect and preserve the environment.
Why buy
from family farmers:
Selling directly to customers is a way for family farmers to bypass
the corporate takeover of agriculture and get a fair price for their
product. By buying directly, you support family farms, sustainable
agriculture and rural communities. Buying directly from family farmers
means customers know where their food is coming from and what they
are getting. My price may be slightly higher than the grocery store
but I believe it should be. Customers are getting a much better
product.
Our involvement
with CCI:
We have been CCI members since 1995. We joined so that we could
combat factory farms that are within a mile of our home. On the
four mile stretch of Mahogany Avenue where we live, there are over
30,000 hogs. CCI has definitely made an impact on our life. I used
to be humble and meek. Now I am neither. Through CCI, I’ve
been able to link up with people locally and other groups nationally.
I firmly believe that by working with other grassroots people, I’ve
been able to effect more positive change in our community than if
I held public office.

To buy farm fresh chicken, turkey or pork, call 712-792-2701 or
email us at atvt@earthlink.net. We sell both chicken roasters and
fryers and will have them cut up for an additional fee. Pork is
sold by the half or whole. Meat can also be delivered to customers.
