Family Farm Lamb
Bob Simon
Winterset, Iowa

About
my farm:
My farm is 4.5 miles northwest of Winterset where I lived with my
wife, Elizabeth, until she passed in 2000. I also have two sons
in Winterset and a daughter in Afton. I grew up on the farm and
had the opportunity to learn many skills. When I got out of the
Army in 1956, I began farming for myself.
How I raise
my animals:
I have a flock of 80 ewes on my 200 acre farm. They are able to
roam freely and get the sunshine they need. The animals are not
given any antibiotics or hormones and are raised by the most natural
means. I also have an ear corn harvest.
Why buy from family farmers:
My lamb is a pure, wholesome, farm raised product. Because it is
all natural, the taste is much better than store bought lamb.
My involvement
with CCI:
I have been a member of CCI since 2003. I was interested in getting
involved with statewide activities. I’ve also been encouraged
to see the spirit of people in Adair County in fighting a 7,000
head sow operation and win. Through CCI, I’ve realized what
it takes to hold DNR accountable and now I’m more involved
with conservation practices.
How to
contact me:
To order farm fresh lamb, call 515-462-4155. I sell my lamb by the
half or whole. Meat will be delivered to the Kirkpatrick Locker
in Winterset and consumers can pick it up there.
