Family Farm Beef
Garry & Pat Klicker
Bloomfield, Iowa
About
our farm:
Pat and I live 11 miles east of Bloomfield. I grew up on the farm
and was always interested in getting back to farming. In 1995, we
moved back to the farm and began our livestock operation.
How we
raise our animals:
All of the hay, grain, corn, and soybeans we raise are fed directly
to our livestock. On my farm, unlike factory farms, the cows are
allowed to grow at their own rate and roam freely. They are not
force fed and we don’t use any artificial chemicals, growth
hormones or biotech crops. We treat our animals as humanely and
naturally as possible.
Why buy
from family farmers:
When customers buy directly from a family farmer, they can be comforted
knowing how their food was raised and processed. They are also taking
an important step in protecting the safety of our food. Concentration
in the livestock industry makes the food supply highly susceptible
to contamination. When customers buy directly, they get a high-quality,
safe product for their families while also helping to support independent
family farmers, rural communities, and the environment.
Our involvement
with CCI:
We have been CCI members since 1997. We joined because we were active
in fighting factory farms and realized that we needed to be part
of a larger group to be more effective. We’ve gained confidence
that as individuals, what we think matters. If we speak up and make
our opinions known, then together we can make a difference. That
couldn’t be donewithout CCI.
